Gongju Cheil Church, a member of the Korean Methodist Church, is the first Methodist church founded in Gongju. It played a central role in the Christian missions carried out in the region since it was established in 1930. The building, which had been substantially destroyed during the Korean War, was rebuilt by the congregation later on. In addition to its primary role in propagating the Christian faith, Gongju Cheil Church also led the modernization movement in multiple areas by operating a school, kindergarten and hospital.
During the church restoration project, its old walls and chimneys were preserved as they were. In recognition of its historical and architectural value, it was designated as Registered Cultural Asset No. 472 on June 20, 2011.
